The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) Final Episode 20

Song Joong Ki as Kang Ma Roo
I feel like I can die happy after watching The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) final episode 20. I have been stressing over what tragedy will torment my beautiful Ma Roo-sshi and Eun Gi-yah when this show ends, but my fears were unfounded. I know I am being dramatic about this, but I am in a very vulnerable state right now because I literally just finished watching it. As I went back quickly and gathered a few screen caps of the final scene (through which I wept loudly) I began to cry as I watched it again. Will I be watching The Innocent Man a second time? ABSOLUTELY.

Kang Ma Roo and Moon Chae Won as Seo Eun Gi
When this episode began with Eun Gi rejecting Ma Roo's prosal to run away together, I started to feel doom. Things seemed to get worse and worse in the first half of the episode (I really loved Ma Roo's speech to Han Jae Hee about wanting to live) as Ma Roo began to look like death, and Jae Hee continued to stand her ground about not taking responsibility. That all turns around, though, as Eun Gi learns about Ma Roo's ill-health and runs to him. This is when the ending really begins. Finally, my question is answered about the tunnel collision, also. Ma Roo wanted to end his painful existence and saw a chance in Eun Gi's punishment. How these two came to find love within each other is a beautiful miracle. And I, swear on the Bible, just cried as I wrote that last sentence.

Eun Gi and Ma Roo
In the concluding scenes of this glorious final episode (Han Jae Hee turns herself in, Jae Gil and Choco end up together), we find Eun Gi working at a bakery in a beautiful spot overlooking the river and Ma Roo was a Doctor just down the street. We also discover that after Ma Roo's surgery he lost his memory (this is not the eye-rolling type of memory loss typically found in a Kdrama, it is Ma Roo's chance at a new life and what he had prayed for). Eun Gi and Ma Roo circle around each other like cautious children who have crushes, and it is so lovely to watch the innocent new relationship develop. What I love about that end is that Eun Gi, who remembers all the pain from the past, is able to forgive and trust again (a divine miracle for what she experienced), and Ma Roo is able to erase the guilt he carried for everyone throughout his whole life and find happiness. "Now, I am happy," Ma Roo says. Now, I too, am happy.

Couple rings ^__^
Also, did everyone notice he was smiling during the episode 20 intro?

The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) episode 19

Song Joong Ki as Kang Ma Roo
I feel like we are standing still. There is a quiet terror pacing through the veins of this show, and it keeps me on edge even if nothing much seems happen. In the first part of episode 19 of The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) Kang Ma Roo baits Han Jae Hee to turn herself in by offering himself up. My brain was expecting this at the end of episode 18, so I wasn't surprised. The scene still got a reaction from me, though, because I my heart is pained by Ma Roo's agony. He is so weighed down by the tremendous guilt he feels toward everyone (Han Jae Hee, oddly enough, Choco, Jae Gil, Eun Gi, maybe every human except himself?) that he doesn't even have the will or desire to get the surgery to save his health and life.

Kang Ma Roo
So, as Seo Eun Gi is burning inside with hatred toward Ma Roo and Han Jae Hee, Ma Roo is throwing gas on the flames. He tells Jae Hee to come to him, not for love, but out of the guilt he feels for taking responsibility for the murder. I'm sorry, but this doesn't make sense to me. I realize Ma Roo is a character in a melodrama, but asking me to believe someone would feel guilt over someone's descent into evil because of their own greed and wrongdoings is complete bullshit, even for a melodrama. Don't misunderstand me, though, I still love Ma Roo. I just can't comprehend that level of responsibility and empathy for others, I guess.

Ma Roo and Eun Gi
When this episode came to a close, Attorney Park was lying in the hospital bed for threatening to expose the truth about Eun Gi's father's death while Jae Hee, who is living in Ma Roo's old house, is claiming that she will never turn herself in until Ma Roo gives her his heart. I had naively thought that when Jae Hee realized what a pathetic person she is for allowing these men to take responsibility for her mistakes, she would choose the right path. But of course, she doesn't. I also thought that after Jae Hee demanding Ma Roo's love in exchange for taking responsibility for the murder, he would give in. Fortunately, at least at the end of the episode, he didn't hand himself over, and instead approached Eun Gi for a head-leaning-on-shoulder moment and a let's-run-far-away-together moment. Ahhhh, Kdrama cliches!

Also, I want this....

The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) episode 18

Song Joong Ki as Kang Ma Roo
The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) episode 18 feels like the beginning of the end. It seems as if things are starting to come to a head, and truths are about to be exposed. What I am personally looking forward to the most is the inevitable downfall of Han Jae Hee. After watching her get drunk, consider leaving everything behind for Ma Roo, and then cry on his shoulder in the park (we'll talk about that in a moment), I was feeling really angry. I understand that she is a twisted person who is desperate to escape the gutter she lived in in her past, but I think she is a complete snake, and I don't believe her words or tears. Eun Gi, on the other hand, is being completely destroyed by this ill fate.

Moon Chae Won as Seo Eun Gi
Eun Gi is trying with all her might to hate Ma Roo for using her, but she can't find the strength to overpower her heart. And, since Moon Chae Won is such an amazing actress (I love her !), the pain and the division of her heart and mind is visible in every movement Eun Gi makes and every word she speaks. When she sat on her bed listening to hers and Ma Roo's song while they both sat quietly on the phone, that's where the tears started to flow from my eyes. I know that this love story is following the typical "why can't they just be together and live normal lives and not have such a screwed up web of misunderstandings and evil people trying to separate them?" theme, but I still find myself heartbroken over the fact that Eun Gi and Ma Roo can't simply be happy together and make beautiful Korean babies together.

Ma Roo and Han Jae Hee
As the episode came to a close, I found myself feeling confused, disturbed, and queasy. I don't know what Attorney Park told Ma Roo (about Eun Gi's father's death?), but we see Jae Hee crying on his shoulder in the end. I hope that Ma Roo is plotting something to take Jae Hee down because that bitch needs to be knocked off her pedestal. Also, if I don't find out what is going on with Ma Roo's health soon, I am going to throw a BF (that's a White Chicks reference for you). Next week should bring some major drama, and answers, I hope, because the last two episodes will air!

The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) episode 16

Song Joong Ki as a happy Kang Ma Roo

Episode 16 of The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) was painful for me. From the very start of the episode when Ma Roo and Eun Gi (Moon Chae Won) relive the scene from episode 8 when Eun Gi confesses her deep love for Ma Roo and her desire to love him, live with him, and have babies together, my stomach started churning. I knew when I saw that scene the first time (a beautifully shot scene taking place in front of Ma Roo's old house in the pouring rain) that it was significant because there was something perfect about it. Ma Roo's fucked up face, Eun Gi's uninhibited release of her feelings, and the tense conditions surrounding their relationship gave birth to a emotionally charged moment framed by a beautifully crafted mise-en-scene. Thinking back to that and the tragedies that followed, made Eun Gi's marriage proposal seem more ominous than romantic. As they walked hand-in-hand and talked about the lovely idea of a wedding, honeymoon, and nine kids, I started to tear up (of course) because I could tell by the look on Ma Roo's face, and the previous 15 episodes, that things were not going to go like Eun Gi wanted.

Ma Roo tells Eun Gi that they shouldn't marry until after she regains her memories and can then decide if she wants to marry a jerk like him. At that moment, I thought, "Maybe Eun Gi will forgive Ma Roo even after regaining her memory. Perhaps she will see through his bad guy facade into the nice guy heart buried deep beneath his hatred and desire for revenge." I know that thought is dead wrong now, but at that time I was too distracted by the pretty picture in front of me and not thinking about what Ma Roo put Eun Gi through. She has every reason to never let him into her heart again. But before I get into that, I want to mention the fact that Jae Hee is a crazy bitch. I know I am stating the obvious right now, but when she said that giving up Ma Roo to become Taesan's Chairwoman is the thing that anyone on the street would say is right, I was, once again, baffled by her thought processes. Her brother appears to be involved with some deeper perversion in Jae Hee's life, though, so I am sure that there is some hidden reason why she is so twisted. I am certain we will find out more about her dark past.

Jae Hee
Later in the episode when Jae Gil approaches Ma Roo about him being very sick was where things started to get really painful. It became clear to me that Ma Roo is the guy who doesn't think is good enough for love or that he deserves happiness. Obviously he wants to live a normal life with Eun Gi, Choco, and Jae Gil since he was happy and truly smiling while listening to them cook and play in his house all together, but he thinks that he is an unlucky person because of the horrible things he has experienced in his life. I understood Ma Roo much more after this episode, and I cried just like Jae Gil did when Ma Roo was asking Jae Gil to let him have a little bit more time to enjoy his ridiculously happy life. Why can't Ma Roo just live normally like most other people? I guess it's not what he is destined for.

Lee Kwang Soo as Park Jae Gil. I cried like this!
The most gut wrenching scenes begin, though, after Eun Gi faces her most painful memory and recalls that it was Ma Roo who was in the other car that she collided with and that Ma Roo tricked her into loving him in order to get close to Jae Hee. I was both proud of Eun Gi for becoming her strong-wiled self again and feeling nauseous for Ma Roo because I know now that he loves her, but that she can't forgive him because she was raised not to trust anyone. Eun Gi let her guard down for a fleeting moment with Ma Roo, and he trampled over her heart while showing no mercy. As the episode came to a conclusion we saw Ma Roo trying desperately to continue to enjoy his brief bliss with Eun Gi, while she had the spark of hatred gleaming in her eyes. Which, frighteningly, popped open at the very end while the two were kissing in the park. As the music turned form romantic to menacing, I began to prepare myself for the awesomely dramatic road ahead.

The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) episode 15

While this episode of The Innocent Man (Nice Guy) wasn't as enthralling as some of the previous ones, there were some important plot-moving events that took place. That crazy bitch Jae Hee is still busy trying to keep Eun Gi out of Tae San, of course, but what baffles me is that she is trying to get back with Ma Roo. I mean, come on, does that makes any sense? I don't foresee Ma Roo ever forgiving Jae Hee, but since she is so determined to have him, I am afraid that she will somehow forcibly get him in the coming episodes. Clearly, she is capable of doing anything to acquire what she desires.

Also, the inevitable reappearance of Eun Gi's ex-boyfriend finally happened. I had been expecting it because his character, while clearly important in Eun Gi's past, had been largely absent form the story. He is a minor character overall, but his contact with Eun Gi helped trigger her memory of telling Ma Roo that she had her first kiss with him (by the way, when she told him that, as he stood in rain with a deformed face, is one of my favorite scenes of this show so far). I loved the scene in this episode when Ma Roo and Eun Gi passed the couple who were making out, and they looked at each other like, "shall we?" They didn't then because, I believe, Ma Roo feels so guilty about what he caused to happen Eun Gi that he has a hard time letting himself be affectionate with her.

They get their kiss later, though, after Ma Roo is released from jail (another scheme trying to separate him from Tae San), and Eun Gi reveals that she remembers telling him that it was her first kiss. Eun Gi is willing to give up Tae San for the Ma Roo she knows and loves now, but what will happen when she regains all of her memories? Also, Ma Roo is pretending to want to takeover Tae San when he talks to Attorney Park, but I don't think that his intention at all. Is he trying to keep Attorney Park as a wedge between Eun Gi and himself because he knows he won't be able to leave her on his own? So many things that I want to know. But the preview for episode 16 looks thrilling. My body is ready to accept more Nice Guy!

Also, I love these two! Lee Kwang Soo as Jae Gil and Lee Yoo Bi as Choco
